Terry Barbieri Portillo was born in Santa Monica, California, grew up in Rockland County, New York, and presently lives in Montgomery County, Texas with her husband, their teenage daughter, six dogs, two cats, a Quarter Horse, a Sicilian donkey, and a partridge in a pear tree. Together, Terry and her husband, Pedro Portillo, own and operate ACU Air Heating and Air Conditioning. Terry also does a little writing on the side or, to be more specific, at five-thirty in the morning when the house is quiet and the phones don't ring. Her essays, poems and short stories have appeared in numerous magazines, including Ellery Queen. Terry has been interviewed and read her poetry on public radio's Houston Living Arts Broadcast. When she isn't writing, running the family business, doing laundry, or vacuuming up dog hair, Terry likes to ride her horse, swim, read, and prepare outlandish feasts for friends.
